Rewards For Clearing The Grand Cathedral Dungeon
For the longest time, ATLUS has been going out of their way to put a wild spin on what is effectively dungeon crawling. In Persona 4 it was the TV World, and in Persona 5, it was Mind Palaces.
However, in Metaphor: ReFantazio, the developer seems to be willing to call a spade a spade and have you take on various dungeons.

Persona 5 Royal 10 Best Romances Ranked
There is only one girl who's worthy of the "Best Girl" Title in Persona 5 Royal. Here are some interesting romances in Persona 5 Royal.
It isn't long before the fantasy epic throws you into a life-or-death situation where you'll need to work to a deadline and save the world, and to do that, you'll need to clear the Regalith Grand Cathedral.
This is a dungeon where you'll face off against new foes, have the option to complete new requests, and you'll also need to take down the evil Necromancer Zorba, who would rather you stayed out of Louis' way.
It can be a tough test for newbies, but we intend to guide you through clearing the Regalith Grand Cathedral Dungeon with this guide.
Regalith Grand Cathedral Quick Info
Before we get into the nuts and bolts of how this dungeon plays out, we should give you some quick details if you just want some pointers without being completely guided through the experience:
Dungeon Location | Catacombs Entrance |
---|---|
Deadline Length | 10 Days |
Toughest Enemies | Homo Oppo |
Louisian Sword/Mage Captain | |
Spekto | |
Best Archetypes | Healer |
Knight | |
Warrior | |
Bosses | Zorba |
Homo Avades |
First Floor
We begin with the first floor of the Dungeon. As you enter from the Catacombs, you'll immediately run into Catherina, the bounty hunter of much acclaim.
After speaking to her, you'll be able to take on a request within the dungeon where you must free some survivors and find their friend. After you accept this request you can enter the dungeon proper.
You'll immediately see a Magla Hollow when you enter. Be sure to visit each of these, as this will allow you to teleport between rest points as you wish.
Begin by running beyond the Magla Hollow and take out the Mad Watchdog Hundo enemies up ahead if you wish. Although, it is best to make the most of their stunned status and retain as much MP as you can in these early exchanges.
Further ahead, you will come to an open area where you will hear some Whiteclads talking about a key to the locked door nearby that houses prisoners. After this scene, head down the stairs and into the back hall, where you will find a sleeping guard and a green icon indicating a Key sitting on a nearby desk.
Also, be sure to check the room further down the hall for a chest containing the Gamber's Jewel.
After you have this key, head back up the stairs you just came down and open the locked door. This will lead to a scene where you free the prisoners, but find Catherina's friend dead on arrival. This will complete the quest, and she will award you 5,000 Reeve.
Alongside this, you will also gain a new Archetype to study, the Brawler. This is an Archetype that offers powerful physical attacks that tend to cost HP instead of MP, which can be great for MP preservation, but makes this party member a glass cannon. All in all, though, it is a good option.
You can also spend some time clearing out the remaining enemies on this floor to level up your characters, but nothing of note remains, so when ready, you can take the stairs to the Second Floor.
Second Floor (Servant's Chamber)
The second floor is relatively straightforward in terms of layout, but the enemies do change from here on out to undead variants. So, it's the perfect time to switch to your Healer Archetype and make the most of their Hama light attack.
After visiting the Magla Hollow, head down the hall where you will see your first undead enemies. These should go down easy, allowing you to proceed.
The areas ahead are full of fodder enemies and zombies. They aren't much of a match for you, especially with Light Magic at your disposal, but you don't need to fight everything you come across.
That being said, do peer your head into the various side rooms you come across, as a lot of these are low-level enemies that will go down without the need for a group battle, and there are useful items like Magla Pills worth picking up.
Along the way, you will also encounter a Homo Oppo, which can prove to be a tough fight. In the spirit of getting through the dungeon as fast as possible, I would suggest sneaking past, but if you want the EXP, go right ahead.
Eventually, you will come to an area with some planters and an archway leading to an area with dark Magla spewing from the door. This door is locked for now, so ignore it and move on to the hall to the right.
Here, you will find a Magla Crystal that needs to be destroyed, attracting an endless stream of Skeleton enemies.
This section requires you to use your melee attack to slowly but surely destroy the crystal, but it's vital that you don't get greedy and take out the Skeletons as they spawn, or you'll be sucked into a Group Battle.
After you destroy this crystal, open the door to the right, as this will open a shortcut leading back to the start of this floor, then turn on your heel and press on. You'll find another Magla Crystal up ahead, so again, take out some Skeletons and destroy that thing.
After this, turn up the hall to your left, and defeat the Homo Oppo if you wish, but like before, it can be better if you just skirt around them.
Whatever you choose, head into the side room on the left of this hall, and you'll find a Traumatized Soldier who will grant you the key to unlock the door to the next area, which is just on the other side of the hall.
Second Floor (Altar Chamber)
After entering the Altar Chamber, you'll be faced with even more undead enemies, so your Healer Archetype remains a massive help in this section. Proceed along the hall and up the stairs to the left, then use the 'Climb Down' option to enter an area made up of crates and wooden platforms.
At this point, Zobra will briefly address you. After this scene, you will have the option to take a long path or a looping platforming section. Considering taking the platforming section and fighting the Homo Oppo along the way, as this will lead to a chest containing a new weapon, the Silver Spatha.
Then, you can clamber back down and drop into another optional area where you can kill a much less imposing enemy and nab the Moonlight Mace. Then, you can head along the long path leading upstairs.
There is one more looping platforming section with yet another Homo Oppo, but I would only advise you to run through at speed picking up the loose items as you go, as there is nothing more of note there.
Then, after looping and climbing back up, you'll come to an area with a Mirage Plateau, and a doorway teeming with dark Magla. The way forward leads to a tough group battle. So this is a good opportunity to prepare.
What I would suggest for the encounter ahead is a build that allows you to make use of fire attacks, as the Skeletal enemies are weak to such attacks. Alternatively, you can make use of the Mahama Synthesis attack to deal Light damage to all parties, likely taking out all the Skeletons, allowing you to focus solely on the Whiteclad.
Then, I would also suggest players use physical attackers to take down the remaining Whiteclad, as this mage tends to resist many magic-based moves. After this fight, stop at the Magla Hollow nearby, and then proceed further into the Altar Chamber.
This will lead to an area where you will find a series of Gargoyle Statues. Don't be fooled, as some of these are enemies that will animate. If they move, be sure to be the first to attack. Plus, they have a wind attack on deck, as they are weak to moves like Cyc or Mage Wind, for example.
Proceed, and you'll eventually come to an area with a lift, which will be your ticket up to the next area of the dungeon, but it will be locked behind a Miasma Barrier. You'll need to locate a Magla Crystal that is causing the blockade. Head up the ladder nearby, and you should be able to spot it below.
Up ahead, you'll have to fight a series of Louisian soldiers, but most of these will not require group battles to defeat, and you'll then come to a hall leading left and right. The left leads to a room with Zombies and a chest containing the Purity Gloves, whereas the right is the way forward.
After going right, head up the stairs, and you'll come to a gold statue, which you can drop down onto and use your arms to run across to an otherwise inaccessible area of the hall. Then, just down the stairs, you'll find a door that acts as a shortcut back to where this section began, and you will find a Magla Hollow.
Up ahead, you'll encounter Spekto enemies, which are easily the most annoying of all variants you'll have faced to this point. This is because they use a curse that will apply Hex, they have the ability to summon allies, and they also can perform a kamikaze attack that deals huge damage.
If you really want to fight them, Light and Fire attacks are your best bet, and Mahama is brilliant for taking them all out fast, but it's honestly better if you run through the next area, avoiding them as you go.
Run through the area with the statue and the altar, and you'll enter a backroom where you will find the Magla Crystal. Here, you will need to fight a group of five Spektos.
As mentioned, the best way to wipe them out fast is by using Mahama. Then, when prompted, you can quickly travel back to the lift, where the barrier will be removed.
When you do this, coming down the lift, you'll encounter three Whiteclad Soldiers. Nothing you haven't faced before, but it's still a tough test.
It's best to take out the Mage in the middle first to prevent them from buffing their allies, and try to use synthesis attacks if you have the MP to spare to make short work of them.
Third Floor
This lift will take you up to the Royal Portrait Hall. After an initial encounter with some Louisian Soldiers, you'll come to a large room with a portrait of Louis hung on the wall. Make a note of this for later, but after the brief cutscene, move forward.
After another set of rooms filled with soldiers and dogs, you'll come to a room where you will finally be standing face-to-face with Zorba. But there's a problem. After a short conversation, they'll use the bones of the dead as projectiles to force you back.
This will lead to your party regrouping back at the portrait room, and you'll need to devise a plan to get around him. Your dialogue choices should be:
- "We could use a shield."
- "The Painting of Louis"
This will lead your group to hilariously use the large painting as a shield when they head back to Zorba, and due to his unwavering love for Louis, he will refuse to defile the painting, allowing you to progress.
The next room will have an Azure variant of the Homo Tenta enemies you'll have encountered by this point. They aren't all that tough, but be wary of casting any ice attacks on them, as they will repel the attack and could knock a member of your team out before the big fight ahead.
Generally speaking, it's easier to simply run up the stairs and to the right, past the enemies, and you'll find a Magla Hollow. This will be your last one, so savor it.
Up ahead, taking out a few more Louisian Soldiers, and then head up the large staircase. This will lead you to an area where the Royal Scepter once was, but sadly, Zobra has managed to take it, and he's made a beeline for the roof.
All that's left to do is go up the stairs, and you'll begin the first of two boss battles to end this dungeon. The first being a face-off against Zorba himself.
It's worth mentioning that, beyond this point, you will not be able to return to the dungeon, provided you beat the bosses. So, wrap up any loose ends before proceeding.
How To Beat Zorba
The battle against Zorba isn't as hard as you might think, and it's all down to how you setup and approach this battle.
Zorba is resistant to a lot of magic-based attacks, and he can summon zombie puppets to swarm you if you let him get up ahead of steam. So, the key here is to end the fight as fast as possible.
I found that the best way to do this was to focus on Physical attacks, and make use of the Knight Archetype. This will allow you to use the Jump Thrust Synthesis attack, which deals serious physical damage at a low MP cost and lowers the target's defense.
Zorba should be your main focus throughout this fight, as this lower defense will allow you to take them down before they can summon and buff their zombie army as they would like. But if you do need to exercise crowd control, the zombie enemies are weak to fire attacks.

Every Mainline Persona Game, Ranked
Every Persona Game offers something unique, and here we've ranked each game in the series based on their story and characters.
The main thorn in your side when using this tactic is that Zorba has access to a move called Bondage Curse, which will inflict Paralysis.
If you have access to Vitamin Relaxant, this can be used to cure this, but the better option is to run a Healer Archetype on your back line, and use Patra as and when it's needed.
Knight's Proclamation can also be good in a pinch if you want to ensure that one of your weaker party members doesn't get targeted, or you want to prevent the entire party from being Paralyzed, but provided you can land several successive Jump Thrust attacks, you should be in an excellent position to take them down before they can really get going.
How To Beat The Eggshell Human
You would have thought being Zorba would have been the end, but sadly, they decide to sacrifice themselves to revive the Human Corpse in the courtyard below. Which naturally means you need to get down there and fight them.
This battle is a lot more elaborate than the last, and requires a different approach. To begin with, you'll want to focus on breaking their eggshell body, as, while you can attack the Heart directly, it's resistant to magic attacks.
The best way to break the egg is by prioritizing your strongest physical attacks, and if you fail to do this in one turn, they will use their Hamon attack that applies lightning damage, so be wary of this.
Upon breaking the Eggshell, the enemy will fall to the ground, allowing you to attack the Heart directly, and again, it's best to use strong physical attacks to apply as much damage as possible before the enemy gains balance.
Note: You can apply debuffs to the heart, but it's not all that worthwhile as they will wear off when the enemy regains their balance.
After they regain their balance, they will summon a load of frog assailant enemies within their egg, and these need to be taken out fast, or they will perform a group swarm attack on your party.
After this group of frogs is dealt with, the enemy will use their hands to repair their shell, which will make knocking them down again take longer than you might like. This cycle will continue unless you take out their hands, which are weak to fire magic.
I would suggest at least taking out one of their hands, as this will ensure that they will only be able to rebuild their eggshell by 50%, allowing for a quicker knockdown.
That's all you really need to know about the enemy, as they will keep up this cycle until you take them down, but there are some other important notes that may help you plan out your fight.
For example, in the second cycle, when the frog assailants appear, Gallica will offer to cause a scene within the egg and will severely lower their HP, allowing you to take them out without worrying about an ambush. This can be a good time to apply buffs like Tarukaja, for example.
Keep breaking their shell and attacking their heart, and before long, you'll have saved the city and, by extension, complete your first Metaphor: ReFantazio dungeon.
